Phonic Firewire 302 plus as Mic input
« on: March 26, 2012, 06:44:11 AM »
Hello at all -

first I must say that the software is very impressiv for an old W****** User.
In combination with nicecast it works good.
Now my very small problem - in the moment I'm testing (before I order it !) RLDJ because I have to replace S** and the W******machine.

I use an imac 20" late 2006 with snow leopard 10.6.8, 2,16 Ghz Core 2 duo, 3GB RAM, and the mentioned firewire interface.
Also Soundflowerbed is running in 2 ch mode.
Output1 = soundflower2ch
Output2 = firefly 302 output
Output3 = built in output

Line-Input = Built in for Mic via Mixer
and her is the problem = If I select the firefly302 firewire  direct as Mic(line) input , I get no Voice !!!!

Line-out = soundflower 2 chanel

In the System / Audi-Midi/ setups the 302 is listed wit h the correct sample rate and buffer size.

It is not a very important issue - I can stream with the external mixer solution, but it is interessting for me to know what happens .

with regards from Germany

Heiko

btw. a nice feature could be for me to use not the itunes library - instead a databse like mysql (that i have from old W***** times :D)or similar with option for different hard drives ??
some ideas about it ?

I"m not familiar with your firefly 302 device. But I'm also slightly confused about what you describe.   You said built in mic via mixer. Are you talking about the mic built in to the iMac? I don't see how that comes in via the mixer. I suspect I'm not understanding, and could use more detail, if you could elaborate. But I'll also say that I much prefer doing all the mixer in an external hardware mixer anyway, and then sending the output of that mixer back to the computer where nicecast can listen to that input and stream it.

As for the music database. Scheduler requires the itunes xml file it saves. If you were a clever sort, you might be able to take your database, write an xml file from it that looks the same as the itunes xml, and scheduler might be able to use that. That might be asking for a bag of hurt though. :) A drawback with this method is now way to mark tracks played, so you'd probably have to rely on other methods to ensure a reasonable music mix.

Oh, and the Library inside Radiologik DJ itself is actually an sqlite database. It might be possible for you to convert your mysql database to sqlite, store it in the right place, and have Radiologik DJ use it. You'll have to clever with databases to make that conversion.

Hi Lane, sorry for the confused description.

Correct is, if I select under "Line in" the "Mic" from my firewire302 I get no Voice.
Therefore I take a Mixer to power the condenser microphone  and use the main mix out of the mixer to connect it to
"built-in input" . Then I set the "Line input"  to "built-in" and I have my Voice (Line in /Ducking  activated).

So far - it works. But I don't like the solution, because the firewire-stream is already present. If I set the
Main Audio Device to "firefly302" for input and output you see that the signal from the Mic is comig into the machine.

regards

OK, well, I don't understand how that firefly302 device works, and can't advise on this one. Perhaps someone else will offer suggestions.

But also, I wouldn't do it that way anyway. :) I have the mixing in my mixer, and never touch the line in button in radiologik DJ. I have my microphone and DJ output mixed together in the mixer, and send that combination to nicecast for streaming. When I want to duck the music, I use the duck button in radiologik DJ. I turn my mic on and off in the mixer. In this way, my voice is exactly in sync with the music. When putting it through the line in on DJ, there will always be a bit of latency between music and voice. That's really only a problem when you're trying to monitor your voice that way though.

good luck!
