Need clarification on Scripts Min/Max times
« on: May 02, 2012, 08:19:57 PM »
I'm a bit confused with how to set the Minimum and Maximum time values when building a multi-line script.

For Example:

I build a simple three line script for a 60 minute program. Line 1 is a Fill with an Interrupt so that we start at the top of the designated hour. I set Min/Max times to 27/30 minutes. Line 2 is a Time command. Line 3 is a Fill. I set Min/Max times to 58/59 minutes.

This worked as expected. Radio plays back approximately 30 minutes of music - posts (plays back) the Time Announcement - and finishes up with the remaining 30 minutes of music. It took me a while to get this to work as explained. The issue is I don't understand the minimum/maximum time values that I used.

In this example - why wouldn't the Min/Max values for Lines 1 and 3 be 27/30, or something close? In other words up to 30 minutes of music playback on both sides of the single Time Announcement.

Can someone elaborate?

Thanks.

The Min and Max values represent where you are in the hour, not how many minutes of music the fill should put in. So Line 3's fill targets the songs to end between :58 and :59 in the hour.

In this way, you can have items that get skipped if you ran over time. Imagine a situation where you have a prerecorded hour that varies from say 45 to 55 minutes. By putting a fill with min/max of :58/:59, you'll always end at that place in the hour no matter how long the item before it is.

Thanks for the help. So you are saying I'm off track with how I set this up? Can you demonstrate how you would set up my proposed program in the best way possible?

Thanks, again.

I'm not really sure what you're asking. You have it worked as you need I thought.

I do. I thought you were implying otherwise! Again - thanks for the help.

I was wondering - how about a new forum group that would feature user's scripts with usage explanations? This would really help and make it easy for newbies to grasp the ins and outs of programming ...

What do you think?

Since this is a common misunderstanding, I've also added this text to the latest version (see picture).
