This isn't a major problem, but I thought you all should know about it.
At our station, we've recently added a 'Recurrent' playlist. It's all the songs that used to be in rotation, plus classics that match our format. (For an indie station like us, that means stuff like Television, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Lou Reed, etc). We want a huge playlist, so all of our staff are scrounging through their libraries to add what we can to the rotation. Now, for the most part, it has gone great... except for one thing. Songs that were purchased in iTunes by other people.
A couple of songs with the iTunes DRM managed to fall into the playlists by accident. What happens is that RLDJ *thinks* it is playing a song, despite the fact that a popup warning comes up about not being able to play the song. This means that during that time, the station is broadcasting dead air.
The easiest way to clear songs that might have DRM issues for us was to run this script: http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=trackdownpurchases
The entire library can be searched, and it will create playlists based on the names of the purchasers. You can then remove them from the library, or fix them however you choose.
didn't apple offer people a chance to get their songs replaced by nondrm versions? maybe for a small fee or something?
also, i suppose you could make a CD with those songs, and rerip them into the library, now without drm.
thanks for the tip.
Yes, that is an option. I plan on doing it when I have the money.
And I can say that the Burn-and-Re-rip a CD method is tried-and-true, though a bit time consuming.
